Before his current role at Fred Hutch, Dr. Lynch held several senior leadership positions across major academic and industry organizations. These include serving as Chief Scientific Officer at Bristol Myers Squibb, Chief Executive Officer of the Massachusetts General Physicians Organization, Director of Yale Cancer Center, and Physician-in-Chief at Yale’s Smilow Cancer Hospital. His career has been defined by his work in advancing large-scale clinical oncology programs and contributing to the development of transformative cancer therapies.
Most recently, Dr. Rubin served as Senior Vice President of Global Clinical Oncology at Merck, where he held multiple senior leadership roles over a 16-year tenure. In this capacity, he played a central role in the clinical development of KEYTRUDA® (pembrolizumab), a groundbreaking anti-PD-1 immunotherapy that became the first therapy of its class approved in the United States.
His work at Merck helped shape the development and expansion of immunotherapy as a foundational pillar of modern cancer treatment. Under his leadership, KEYTRUDA was studied across multiple tumor types and treatment settings, significantly influencing global oncology practice.
