Aetna Contributes $100,000 to Support Safer Foundation

Aetna Better Health® of Illinois, a CVS Health® company (NYSE: CVS), has announced a generous community investment of $100,000 to the Safer Foundation. This funding aims to assist in housing unhoused families in Chicago.

To date, Aetna’s investment has enabled the Safer Foundation to secure homes for 13 families, totaling 22 individuals, within Cook County.

The Safer Foundation provides reentry support to formerly incarcerated individuals, offering them vital connections to stabilizing resources, employment, education, and advocacy. Aetna’s $100,000 contribution further enhances this support by promoting housing stability.

These housing units are crucial for individuals reintegrating into society, helping them reunite with their families and providing them with peace of mind. By partnering with organizations like the Safer Foundation, known for their success in aiding vulnerable populations, Aetna is committed to building healthier communities.

“Finding stable housing can be a significant challenge for justice-involved community members. Secure, stable, and affordable housing is fundamental to a healthy lifestyle and well-being,” said Rushil Desai, CEO of Aetna Better Health of Illinois. “We are thrilled to support Safer Foundation in placing more families into homes and remain dedicated to advancing federal and local initiatives that eliminate barriers for all.”

Anthony Lowery, Associate Vice President of Reentry Housing Services at the Safer Foundation, commented, “Aetna’s investment has significantly enhanced our ability to provide support. Thanks to this funding, we’ve been able to house many families in need. As more housing options become available, we anticipate placing even more individuals. Moreover, our partnership with Aetna sets the stage for us to join the Cook County Affordable Home Opportunities initiative, extending housing options to those who need it most.”

Aetna has contributed over $800,000 in community investments to support various Illinois-based organizations that aid Medicaid members with healthy food access, job development, housing support, maternal and child health, and overall care.

Aetna Better Health of Illinois serves more than 397,000 Medicaid members across 102 counties, providing value-added benefits and best practices that yield positive outcomes in utilization, health gap closures, and member satisfaction.
