ImmunoTek Bio Centers, the largest independent operator and developer of blood plasma donation centers in the United States, is thrilled to announce its participation in International Plasma Awareness Week (IPAW) from October 7-11, 2024. During this special week, the community is invited to join the festivities of Plasma Mania, which will take place at both ImmunoTek Plasma and Freedom Plasma locations. This week-long celebration aims to raise awareness about the critical role plasma donations play in saving lives and enhancing patient outcomes around the globe.
In addition to the usual financial compensation for donors, ImmunoTek Plasma and Freedom Plasma will host a variety of enjoyable activities, prize giveaways, and bonus opportunities as a gesture of gratitude for the invaluable contributions of plasma donors. These events will not only celebrate dedicated donors but also educate the community on the importance of plasma donation.
Plasma, a crucial protein-rich component of blood, is in high demand worldwide. In fact, donors in the United States provide two-thirds of the global supply of blood plasma used to manufacture essential medicines and therapies. These include treatments for conditions such as primary immunodeficiencies (PID), bleeding disorders like hemophilia, autoimmune diseases, severe burns, transplant patients, and more.

Plasma Mania aims to inject fun and excitement into the week while honoring our donors for their invaluable contributions.”
Individuals with rare diseases and genetic disorders heavily rely on plasma-derived medicinal products for their quality of life. Treating just one patient for a year can require between 130 (for PID) and 1,200 (for hemophilia) donations from healthy donors, underscoring the immense importance of plasma donations.

Plasma donations are vital for patients with various medical conditions, and every donor’s contribution truly makes a difference.”
To donate plasma, individuals must undergo a medical screening conducted by our professionals, which includes a medical history and physical exam. The plasma donation process is similar to blood donation but takes a bit longer, allowing donors to contribute more plasma. Using a safe and sterile automated process called plasmapheresis, plasma—the liquid portion of blood—is separated from red blood cells, which are then safely returned to the donor. Individuals can donate plasma up to twice a week, with at least one day in between donations.
