Walgreens Prescription Delivery: Everything You Need to Know

Walgreens understands that health needs can arise anytime, and sometimes it’s more convenient to have essentials brought directly to you. As a pharmacy-first company, Walgreens has been offering prescription delivery since 2018, meeting customers wherever they are.

During the pandemic, demand for home-delivered medications grew as many people were isolating. In response, Walgreens introduced Same Day Delivery in 2021, allowing prescriptions to arrive even faster.

Today, Walgreens remains a leader in prescription delivery, with one of the fastest and most competitively priced services available.

“Whether you need Same Day Delivery for a single prescription or assistance with multiple medications for chronic conditions, we’re dedicated to putting care within easy reach,” says Rick Gates, Walgreens’ Chief Pharmacy Officer. “With options like Same Day Delivery, in-store Pickup, Curbside Pickup, drive-through, digital tools, or in-person support from your trusted pharmacist, we’re here whenever and wherever you need us.”

What Delivery Options Are Available for Prescriptions?

Walgreens offers three options: Same Day, 1-2 days, and 5-10 business days. For eligible prescriptions, you can select “Same Day Delivery” or “1-2 Day Delivery” at checkout on the Walgreens app or website. For longer delivery (5-10 business days), select “ship to home” at checkout.

To qualify for Same Day Delivery, place your order at least three hours before the pharmacy closes, but no later than 7 p.m. Some prescriptions may not be eligible for delivery based on type, location, holidays, weather, or other limitations.

Some insurance plans may not cover Same Day or 1-2 Day Delivery. Check with your provider for more details.

How Does Walgreens Prescription Delivery Work?

On the Walgreens website or app, you can confirm if delivery is available in your area. When filling a new prescription, choose your delivery method at checkout. For refills, select delivery when placing your order.

Most prescriptions qualify for delivery, though certain medications, like those requiring temperature control, are excluded. Check the Walgreens app, website, or speak with your pharmacist to confirm your prescription’s eligibility.

What Are the Delivery Fees?

Same Day Delivery has a $5.99 fee, 1-2 Day Delivery costs $3.99, and standard 5-10 day shipping to home is free. No membership is required.

Additionally, since March 2023, Walgreens offers free Same Day Delivery of HIV medications for eligible patients through partnerships with Uber and DoorDash.*

Is Prescription Delivery Safe?

Yes. Medications are shipped in secure, tamper-proof packaging and delivered by trusted couriers. Orders are left at your doorstep for convenience.

How Will I Know When My Prescription is On Its Way?

You’ll receive an email when your order is out for delivery, along with text message updates if you placed the order online or via the Walgreens app. You can also track Same Day Delivery orders in the Walgreens app.

What If I Have a Question About My Prescription After It Arrives?

Use Walgreens Pharmacy Chat, a secure, 24/7 online feature that connects you with a Walgreens pharmacy team member. You can save and print your chat transcript. For delivery questions, contact the store that fulfilled your order.

Can I Add Retail Items to My Prescription Delivery?

Not at this time. Retail items can be ordered separately for Same Day Delivery. Select Same Day Delivery at checkout on the app or website for over-the-counter essentials delivered within an hour.
