Allergan Aesthetics, a part of AbbVie, has announced its sixth consecutive year of partnering with Girls Inc. to encourage high school and college girls’ interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) and provide valuable mentorship opportunities.
“In 2023, women made up just 28% of the STEM workforce in the United States. We simply don’t have enough role models to inspire young girls. Giving them the opportunity to learn from strong women mentors is one of the most impactful ways we can help the next generation succeed in STEM,” said Carrie Strom, President of Global Allergan Aesthetics and Senior Vice President at AbbVie. “Mentorship can transform lives by increasing education, building confidence, and expanding networks that open doors for the future.”
The Importance of Mentorship
The partnership between Allergan Aesthetics and Girls Inc. emphasizes the vital role of mentorship and female role models in addressing challenges and helping women succeed in STEM fields.
Girls Inc. offers mentorship, safe environments, and comprehensive programs that equip girls with skills and relationships for their future. Research shows that 91% of Girls Inc. participants report having adults at the organization who believe in their success, which is critical in developing the self-confidence needed to achieve their goals.
Through initiatives like “Girls Meet the Workforce,” Allergan Aesthetics has mentored nearly 100 girls over four years in collaboration with the Orange County Girls Inc. affiliate, giving them early exposure to professional environments.
“The combination of mentorship, holistic programming, and pro-girl spaces makes the Girls Inc. experience truly unique,” said Stephanie J. Hull, Ph.D., President and CEO of Girls Inc. “We are thankful to Allergan Aesthetics for being our partners in preparing girls for success. By connecting them with women leaders and career opportunities in a traditionally male-dominated field, Allergan Aesthetics helps girls envision themselves in these spaces and gives them the confidence to pursue STEM interests.”
Mentorship Moment Campaign
Allergan Aesthetics is launching a social media campaign to inspire aesthetics professionals and consumers to take a “mentorship moment” with a young girl in their lives. Running from October 4 to November 8, 2024, participants can share their pledge via Instagram, LinkedIn, or Facebook. This initiative encourages people to share their knowledge and experience to help girls progress in their career journeys.
In Houston, at the Girls Inc. Be Bold LeadHERS Summit at Houston Community College, participants will hear from successful women physician role models in the “Empower YOU: Equipping the New Generation of STEM Leaders” panel, giving them valuable insights and inspiration.
