Care Access, a global clinical research company focused on advancing medicine, is hosting a Heart & Kidney Health Screening event in Houston, Texas. The initiative is designed to raise awareness about health risks, including lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)], a harmful type of cholesterol that affects one in five people and increases the risk of heart disease and stroke. Despite its widespread impact, many individuals are unaware of their Lp(a) levels due to limited access to testing. As Lp(a) cannot be reduced by diet or exercise and there are no approved treatments to lower it, it is crucial to increase awareness of this risk factor.
The Heart & Kidney Health Screening will offer free Lp(a) testing and screenings for other metabolism and kidney-related risks. The screenings are part of Care Access’ Future of Medicine program, which aims to provide valuable health insights to participants and promote community engagement in clinical trials for new treatments targeting Lp(a) and other conditions.
The Future of Medicine program includes three core elements:
- No-Cost Testing: Free screenings for heart and kidney risks, including Lp(a), to help individuals understand their health.
- Health Education: Information to raise awareness about cardiovascular health and the role of clinical research in advancing medical treatments.
- Clinical Trial Awareness: Support in finding local clinical trials and encouraging community involvement in medical research.
The screenings will take place from November 11-14 at Hilton Houston Medical Center, 6633 Travis Street. While walk-ins are welcome, scheduling in advance is recommended at MyFreeHeartTest.com.
I’m thrilled to be part of an initiative that provides crucial health screenings and helps identify hidden risks like Lp(a), which can have a significant impact on heart health,” said Dr. Ali Bajwa, Principal Investigator at Care Access – Houston.
