GE HealthCare’s New Hospital Pulse Tile Secures First Major Academic Medical Center Customer

GE HealthCare Unveils Hospital Pulse Tile for Command Center Software

GE HealthCare (Nasdaq: GEHC) has announced the launch of Hospital Pulse, a new tile within its Command Center Software Platform. This innovative feature consolidates real-time information from various departments into a customizable dashboard, allowing operational leaders to quickly assess their healthcare system’s performance and make necessary adjustments throughout the day. For instance, the tile can display emergency department admissions compared to a six-month median or highlight maximum post-anesthesia boarding times over the past day. This advancement aims to enhance hospital efficiency, benefiting both care teams and patients.

Duke Health, a user of Command Center Software since 2019, will be the first healthcare provider worldwide to implement the Hospital Pulse Tile. It will be available to U.S. customers next year. Kristie Barazsu, Associate Chief Operating Officer – Emergency Services, Patient Flow & Support Services at Duke University Hospital, stated, “Implementing 24-hour monitoring in our command center has significantly impacted our operations, the experience of our care team, and patient support. While high-quality care involves positive interactions with the care team, a lot happens behind the scenes to facilitate that. AI-powered technology is crucial for sustainably supporting care teams.”

The Command Center software simplifies the orchestration of patient care across hospital systems, balancing demands from various service points. By utilizing a suite of specialized tiles—applications integrated within the platform—Command Center merges streaming data from electronic medical records (EMRs) and other systems. This allows for quick patient-to-bed matching and provides healthcare staff with network-wide visibility and planning tools, ultimately improving access to care, reducing wait times, conserving resources, and enhancing operational efficiency. At Duke Health, an average of over 150 users log in daily to Command Center for insights into hospital operations.

“Duke Health’s adoption of Hospital Pulse Tile continues our longstanding relationship. We look forward to working with them to enhance system-wide efficiencies for the benefit of patients and care teams,” said Bree Bush, General Manager of Command Center at GE HealthCare. “This expansion is part of our ongoing collaboration with Duke to leverage advanced digital and AI technologies to improve operational efficiencies. Together, we aim to address critical challenges and maximize the impact of our solutions.”

Duke Health has sought new methods to integrate cutting-edge digital and AI-enabled technologies to boost operational efficiency. Healthcare systems often face challenges managing patient flow and capacity due to fragmented data across multiple platforms. GE HealthCare has enabled Duke Health to implement machine learning models that facilitate data-driven decision-making and enhance access to care. As a result, Duke Health has reduced the time from bed request to bed assignment by 66% and cut temporary labor needs by 50% since 2020, leading to a 6% improvement in productivity by effectively assigning staff where they are most needed.

Key Features of Hospital Pulse Tile:

  • Real-Time Insights: Leaders can monitor the health system’s operational status and identify bottlenecks in real-time by accessing both current and historical data related to operational metrics.
  • Key Operational Metrics: Offers a comprehensive view of crucial metrics, including patient admissions from various entry points, average length of stay, and emergency room admission rates, enabling efficient hospital management.
  • Customizable Dashboards: Tailored for all organizational leadership levels, allowing users—from nursing units to executives—to personalize their dashboard to highlight the metrics most relevant to them.

The Command Center is part of GE HealthCare’s AI-enabled digital enterprise offerings, featuring tools designed to improve patient flow, mitigate bottlenecks, eliminate inefficiencies, expedite discharges, and enhance access to care. Other tiles within the Command Center include the Patient Placement Prioritizer Tile, Capacity Intake Tile, Procedural Growth Tile, and ED Expediter Tile.
