Henrietta Lacks ’ family appointed World Health Organization Goodwill ministers for Cervical Cancer Elimination
WHO’s Director- General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus moment appointed the Crunches family as WHO Goodwill ministers for Cervical Cancer Elimination. The appointment recognizes their sweats to support cervical cancer forestallment and to save the memory of Henrietta Lacks, who failed from cervical cancer in 1951.
Henrietta Lacks ’ story is one of injustice, with the vast donation she made to wisdom hidden from the world for numerous times. The cells they took, known as HeLa cells, latterly came the first “ immortal ” cell line- meaning they’re the only cells which have continued to live outside the mortal body and replicate.

About Henrietta Lacks
As a youthful mama , Henrietta Lacks and her hubby were raising five children near Baltimore when she fell ill. She went to Johns Hopkins after passing expansive vaginal bleeding and was diagnosed with cervical cancer. Despite treatment, it cut her life short on 4 October 1951. She was only 31 times old.
During treatment, experimenters took samples of her tumour. That “ HeLa ” cell line came a scientific advance the first immortal line of mortal cells to divide indefinitely in a laboratory. The cells were mass produced, for profit, without recognition to her family. Over 50 million metric tonnes of HeLa cells have been distributed around the world.
In addition to the HPV vaccine, HeLa cells allowed for development of the polio vaccine; medicines for HIV, haemophilia, leukaemia, and Parkinson’s complaint; improvements in reproductive health, including in vitro fertilization; exploration on chromosomal conditions, cancer, gene mapping, and perfection drug; and are used in studies responding to the COVID- 19 epidemic.
