Her experience includes work involving U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requirements, ISO 13485 standards for medical device quality management systems and European Union Medical Device Regulation (EU MDR) requirements.

For a biotechnology company expanding manufacturing operations, quality engineering represents an important element of maintaining consistent processes and preparing products and operations for regulatory requirements. Quality systems can influence everything from manufacturing procedures and documentation to supplier management, process controls and product release.

Coggins is expected to contribute her experience to I2Pure’s efforts to strengthen its quality infrastructure while supporting the company’s broader operational growth.

Her background also includes leading quality transformation initiatives across global operations. Such experience can be particularly relevant as companies move from smaller-scale research and development activities toward more structured manufacturing and commercialization processes.

Coggins earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Mars Hill University in North Carolina.

Her appointment alongside Wilkes creates an expanded leadership structure covering both production and quality functions at I2Pure’s Asheville manufacturing facility.

Biomaterials Scientist Expands R&D Capabilities

At I2Pure’s Manassas, Virginia R&D laboratory, Engert joins the organization as a Biomaterials Scientist. Her background includes experience spanning biodefense, public health and laboratory research.

Engert holds a Master of Science degree in Biodefense from George Mason University, where her studies focused on health security preparedness, biosurveillance and emerging biological threats. She also earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health from the University of Nevada, Reno.

Her scientific and public health background adds another dimension to I2Pure’s research team as the company continues investigating applications of molecular iodine technology.

Biomaterials research can involve examining interactions between materials and biological systems and can support the development and evaluation of technologies intended for use in healthcare and related applications. At I2Pure, Engert will contribute to the company’s research activities involving its molecular iodine platform.

Her experience in biodefense and emerging biological threats also provides a scientific perspective relevant to antimicrobial research, an area closely associated with I2Pure’s technology focus.

Focus on Molecular Iodine Technology

I2Pure is developing technologies based on molecular iodine, also known as I₂, for antimicrobial and antiseptic applications. The company describes its platform as being supported by patented molecular iodine technology.

Iodine has a long history of use in antimicrobial and antiseptic applications, but molecular iodine technologies can involve specific formulation, delivery and stability considerations. I2Pure’s research and development efforts are focused on its proprietary technology platform and potential applications derived from it.

As the company advances its platform, expanding both its scientific and operational teams can help connect laboratory research with manufacturing and quality requirements.
