Medea Inc. Teams Up with CalOptima Health to Distribute 100,000 Naloxone Units to Southern California Harm Reduction Groups

Medea Inc., a leading medical products and pharmaceutical distribution company, is at the forefront of a major initiative to tackle the opioid crisis. The company is partnering with CalOptima Health to distribute 100,000 units of naloxone nasal spray to harm reduction organizations across Orange County. This effort aims to combat the alarming rise in drug overdose deaths caused by fentanyl and other synthetic opioids.

The naloxone, procured through CalOptima Health’s Drive to Revive initiative, is being supplied and distributed by Medea Inc. as part of a broader strategy to enhance access to life-saving treatments. One notable recipient of this donation is Recovery Road, which will be distributing naloxone at a community wellness fair in Anaheim on August 29 from 5:30–8:30 p.m. (250 E. Center St., Anaheim, CA 92805).

Distribution began in July, with naloxone being delivered to various community events in Anaheim, Buena Park, Irvine, Newport Beach, and other cities. In addition to Recovery Road, harm reduction groups such as Fentanyl Solution, End Overdose, and Harm Reduction Circle will receive allocations. CalOptima Health-affiliated provider groups and community organizations are also eligible for free naloxone supplies.

“The availability of naloxone and other reversal agents is crucial in addressing the opioid epidemic,” said Shane K.M. Wood, Executive Director of Fentanyl Solution. “By collaborating with a diverse network of nonprofits and local businesses, our aim is to make opioid reversal drugs as accessible as first-aid kits.”

Brandon Laidlaw, CEO of Medea Inc., emphasized the importance of widespread naloxone distribution. “In the battle against opioid-related fatalities, everyone is a first responder. Medea is committed to making naloxone available and affordable to combat the fentanyl crisis.”

Fentanyl poisoning is currently the leading cause of death for individuals aged 17 and under in Orange County, with approximately 110 deaths statewide each week attributed to illicit fentanyl. Access to naloxone can often mean the difference between life and death.
